Tierrasanta, often referred to as “The Island in the Hills,” is a master-planned community in San Diego, California, known for its suburban tranquility and proximity to urban amenities. Established in 1971, it spans approximately 11 square miles and offers a blend of residential comfort and natural beauty.

Situated in central San Diego, Tierrasanta provides residents with convenient access to major highways, facilitating easy commutes to downtown San Diego, beaches, and other attractions. Its strategic location ensures that essential services and entertainment options are within a short drive.

As of 2022, the median residential sale price was approximately $880,000, with a median household income around $98,000. The real estate market in Tierrasanta is characterized by well-maintained properties and a strong sense of community.

Tierrasanta is served by the San Diego Unified School District, offering quality educational institutions such as Kumeyaay and Tierrasanta Elementary Schools, Farb Middle School, and Serra High School. These schools are known for their commitment to academic excellence and community involvement.

Originally part of the Mission San Diego de Alcalá ranch in the late 18th century, the area served as a Marine Corps training facility during World War II. In 1961, the U.S. Government sold the land to the City of San Diego, leading to the establishment of Tierrasanta in 1971.
